Importance of Nondestructive Testing in Pipeline Inspections
The importance of nondestructive testing in pipeline inspections should not be undervalued. Nondestructive testing (commonly referred to as “NDT”) is a group of analysis techniques commonly used in the manufacturing and construction pipelines to detect flaws and damage before they become cause for concern. In order to reduce operating costs and maintenance, adequate NDT and inspection by qualified personnel is essential during all stages of pipeline manufacturing, construction and operation.
When a pipeline is constructed, NDT inspectors may use visual, X-ray, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and other inspection methods to evaluate the welds and ensure that they are of high quality.
